Holiday Events

There are plenty of opportunities for children to get into the holiday spirit in Southwest Colorado. Some special events kids would enjoy include:

Nov. 26 – Christmas Caroling & Procession. Join a singing parade to kick off the holidays. 970-247-0312.

Dec. 4 – Santa Train: Enjoy cocoa and cookies with Santa (left) after a D&SNG train ride. 920-247-2733.

Dec. 5 – Yule Log Celebration & Sugar Plum Festival: Search for the Yule Log and gather treasures along
the way, then enjoy treats from the Sugar Plum Fairy. 970-387-5654.

Dec. 31 – New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade:
Ring in the new year as you watch skiers light up a snowy mountain at Purgatory. 970-247-9000.


Sledding

Top local picks for a slipping, sliding, thrilling ride: H Chapman Hill in Durango: This gentle, groomed hill is easy to get to and has safety features for little ones. H Forest Lakes subdivision: A steep hike for a long ride.

Museum

The Children's Museum of Durango, located at 802 E. 2nd Ave., offers hands-on learning, interacitve exhibits and workshops that stimulate the mind and imagination. Many craft and science activities are offered.

Snow Monsters

This national program, which teachs kids about winter sports, is conducting a nationwide search for the best skiers and snowboarders age 9 - 13. The Durango qualifying event is Jan. 29, when a local winner will be chosen to compete in the "Sports Illustrated For Kids Next Snow Search" finals, to be broadcast on NBC on March 5.
