Lakes are for fishing Vallecito Reservoir - Take County Road 240 east of town to Vallecito Road, which leads to the dam, about 23 miles. Vallecito is the largest reservoir in the area with full services. Trout, Salmon and Pike. Haviland Lake - Take Highway 550 N. about 17 miles, between Rockwood and Purgatory. Turn right at the Rapp Guide Service stable. Camping. No motorized boats. Trout. Forebay Lake - North of Haviland Lake, and accessible only by 4X4, foot or horse. Trout. Lemon Reservoir - Follow County Road 240 east to County Road 243, which will take you to the dam, about 17 miles. Camping available. Trout and Kokanee Salmon. Andrews Lake - Take Highwy 550 N. over Coal Bank Pass and start the ascent up Molas Pass. The entrance is on your right, follow the dirt road to the lake. Trout. Little Molas Lake - North of Andrews Lake on Molas Pass. Turn left on Little Molas Lake Road, drive 1 mile. Flies and lures only. Trout. Molas Lake - North of the Little Molas entrance on the right. Great camping. Trout. Potato "Spud" Lake - Follow Highway 550 N. past Cascade Village and turn right onto Lime Creek Road, drive to the parking area about 3 miles down the road. Take the ½-mile hike to the lake. Trout. Other Lakes in the Area: Henderson Lake, Ice Lake, Crater Lake, and Taylor Lake. Please ask for specific directions.
Rivers and Streams are too Animas River - Flows from Silverton through Durango and into New Mexico. The best fishing is generally south of Durango. Specific areas are limited to catch and release, and flies and lures only, please watch for signs. Trout. Los Piños River (Pine River) - Take County Road 240 to Vallecito Reservoir. The river flows into Vallecito northeast of the lake. The best fishing is just above and just below the reservoir. Trout. Cascade Creek - Take Highway 550 N. about 27 miles just past Cascade Village at the base of Coal Bank Pass. The creek flows into the Animas River just north of Haviland Lake. Trout. Vallecito Creek - Take the drive to Vallecito Lake and take the hike up to the creek flowing into Vallecito from the northeast. Trout. Mineral Creek - Travel on Highway 550 N. to Silverton, about 50 miles, and begin ascending Red Mountain Pass. Mineral Creek runs parallel to the road for several miles. Trout. Hermosa Creek - Take Highway 550 N. to Hermosa, about 11 miles. Turn left onto Lower Hermosa Road and travel about 4 miles. The creek flows along the same path as Hermosa Creek Trail and joins the Animas River just south of Hermosa. Trout. Lime Creek - Take Highway 550 N. about 27 miles just past Cascade Village. Turn right onto Lime Creek Road. Travel a few miles until you begin to see the creek. The upper entrance to the creek may be found by traveling further north on Highway 550, ascending Coal Bank Pass. The entrance for the north end of Lime Creek Road will be on the right. Trout. Dolores River - Take Highway 160 W. to Mancos, about 27 miles. Turn right onto Highway 184 and drive 18 miles until you reach Dolores. The Dolores River flows from McPhee Reservoir. It begins about 50 miles north on Highway 145 at the base of Lizard Head Pass. Trout. Dutch Creek - Take Highway 550 N. to Hermosa, turn left at the sign for the Lower Hermosa Creek Road, following it to the end, about 4 miles. The creek runs near this trail. Trout. Junction Creek - Travel north on Main Avenue to 25th Street. Turn left and follow the road, which will become Junction Creek Road, to the large parking area. Junction Creek flows along the Colorado Trail. Trout. Lightner Creek - Take Highway 160 W. of Durango, turn right at Lightner Creek Road. Lightner Creek flows along the road for several miles. Trout.
