Wells Fargo
If you have a collector of Old West or miniature items, your collector will love the Wells Fargo stagecoaches. They are available in three different sizes and are bound to please. "Jack the Dog" wears a neckerchief with his name on it and the legend says that Wells Fargo had dogs (maybe even named "Jack") along to help guard the shipments.
Cash is always a good gift served up nice and crisp in a gift envelope and so are U.S. Savings Bonds. (If you choose the latter too late, Wells Fargo will give you a certificate stating the bonds are on their way.)
Here's a terrific idea - a VISA gift card with an amount you have pre-set (from $25 to $500 in whole dollar amounts) that has the recipient's name on it with a special message if desired. The recipient can use it anywhere that a VISA card is accepted. (Allow 10 days for these to arrive.)
Wells Fargo Bank is at the corner of College Drive and Camino del Rio.

The Tulip Tree
Get ready for some eye candy when you head to shop at the Tulip Tree at 600 Main Avenue.
Beautiful Christopher Radko® holiday ornaments dazzle with color from a secret-recipe paint which is applied by hand, then top-finished with crushed Austrian crystal for extra gleam and sparkle.
Charming country collectibles by Williraye® would be great gifts and conversation starters. Candles, candles and more candles to create a special ambiance make wonderful gifts and the big ones are touted to burn for 240 hours!
The Tulip Tree also carries the Gentle Souls® angel collectibles which can be set for use outside after the bases are filled with sand. Soft colors and smooth sculpting make the Gentle Souls® collection an attractive addition to a home. Be sure to see the numerous styles of crosses available. They are made of many different media, including metal and ceramic.

Angel & LIghts
Stained glass has a special appeal as an expression of art. For someone on your list who is interested in learning how to do works in stained glass, how about a gift certificate for lessons? Angels & Lights Gallery and Studio is a good place to get started.
For other gift ideas the store has local artists' work, antiques and craft supplies all geared around stained glass. Shown in this photo is a lovely consignment piece for bear lovers. Be sure to inquire about custom works too.

La Plata County Humane Society
The La Plata County Humane Society Thrift Store makes holiday shopping fun and budget-wise.
There is plenty of ski and snowboard equipment and clothing as this small example shows, but there's lots more too.
Check out the tall jewelry cabinets with the too-cool vintage and retro jewelry. There's a great section of collectibles with kitchenware that includes dishes, glassware, stemware and vintage linens.
If you need something really reasonably priced for holiday decorating, take a look at the Christmas ornaments and décor items. Books make great gifts too! You'll find a good selection of things to give and the animals will love you for it!
La Plata County Humane Society is located South Camino del Rio next to the animal shelter.

Heydays & Houseweeds
Something old and something new and a shopping experience that is most pleasant. This is what you'll find while holiday shopping at Heydays & Houseweeds.
Healthy, happy houseplants lure shoppers to the back of the store, while the new and antique home furnishings and accessories call for attention in the front. Vintage linens, replicas of vintage linens, antique crystal and quilts are all arranged just like "home."
For something different for your own house, you may want to see the antique Christmas ornaments. There are even locally-made beeswax candles that make wonderful gifts for friends.
Heydays & Houseweeds is located at 644 College Drive. |
Appaloosa Trading Company
When it comes to fine leather goods and a huge variety of items created in leather, Appaloosa Trading Company definitely fills the bill. Wallets, handbags, belts, coin purses, journals, photo albums and picture frames are just starters.
Designed and created in Durango, but sold worldwide, Appaloosa Trading Company's high-quality leather goods would be great gifts. Owner Michael Gibson specially designs many items as authentic replications of things that were used in the Old West.
Appaloosa has three locations, two down-town locations (upstairs and downstairs in one building – one is called Rough Riders) in Rio Grandeland and their Home & Ranch Décor Store at Hermosa. |
Honeyville
Honeyville has sweetened up the holidays here since 1925 and there is now such a long list of honey-touched products that there are too many to mention.
All made right at Honeyville, great-tasting gift items include chokecherry jelly and syrup, black cherry jam, a tri-berry jam called Bumbleberry and various flavors of whipped honey. New this year is the honey-enhanced pumpkin butter and chokecherry vinaigrette.
Your shopping is made easy with Honeyville's huge selection of gift packages with varying assortments, or you can design your own. Packaging is done in crates or lovely Colorado motif boxes. (For something extra special for your own holiday dessert bowl of ice cream, try the super Chocolate Buzz!) There are even stuffed animals - mostly bears, of course.
For your convenience, there is a holiday seasonal store in the Durango Mall and the main location in the Animas Valley north of Hermosa. |
