Dear Citizens: Senatory Wany Allard

We all saw the best of our country at work.

Dear Citizens of La Plata County

During my July 2002 town meeting tour of Southwest Colorado, I was able to observe firsthand the incredible destruction the Missionary Ridge and Valley fires caused. The loss of homes and personal property are truly a tragedy, but two things stood out to me during my visit.

The first was the people of La Plata County. Every time I met with someone or spoke to a group of constituents the determination of the communities to get through this tragedy was evident on all the faces.

Businesses, organizations and many individuals stepped up and provided a hot shower, a meal, and a comfortable place to sleep for the firefighters between shifts. And the citizens of Durango never missed an opportunity to thank the firefighters and let them know how much they are appreciated. You should all be proud!

The second were the many heroes that stepped up and made a difference. From the local fire fighters and those who came from other states to assist them, to the local, state and federal employees from many agencies, we all saw the best of our country at work.

We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful state as Colorado, but not just the scenery makes our state great, the people do! During this time of rebuilding, I wish everyone well. And if my office can assist in any way possible, please contact me.
